Problem

UNC came to BLDG25 with a wealth of detailed anatomical cadaver imagery wanting to create a more meaningful learning tool that would resonate with students and impact healthcare outcomes. Budgets were limited.

Solution

Using volumetric data sets from the National Library of Medicine's Visible Human Project, we developed a VR prototype utilizing Oculus Go. To get to the simplicity and elegance of this solution, developers overcame significant technical challenges in both rendering speeds and capacity as well as the CPU and GPU performance limits inherent to consumer market mobile VR headsets.
